The combined display of plants and architectural features is a frequent interior attraction. Harmonising the fountain or pond and the surrounding planting is not simply an aesthetic question, the proximity of the treated water strongly restricts the choice of plants, and in the case where the foliage or the roots have direct contact with the water (e.g. aquatic plants) it can also relate back to the technical aspects. If there are other living organisms i.e. fish placed in the water, the possibilities primarily due to plant protection restrictions is narrowed further.
It is beneficial to include the horticulturalist at a design level, as the later maintenance of such decorations (together with water management) due to practical reasons is usually left for the professional plant designer. |
